Visit of Hon`ble Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India to ICAR-National Research Centre on Pig, Rani, Guwahati, Assam on 30th January, 2016

 

Honourable Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Shri Radha Mohan Singh Ji visited ICAR-National Research Centre on Pig, Rani, Guwahati on 30th January 2016.

He was accompanied by Smt. Bijoya Chakravarty, Honourable Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and Chairperson, Committee on Empowerment of Women and Mr. Pankaj Kumar Pathak, Member, Institute Management Committee, ICAR-NRC on Pig. Union Minister chaired an interactive meeting with Director, Scientists and staff members of ICAR-NRC on Pig. The meeting was attended by the Scientists from ICAR-Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Barapani, Meghalaya, ICAR-Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kahikuchi, Guwahati, ICAR-Central Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI) Regional Centre, Guwahati. In-Charge Director, Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone III, Umiam and the Project Coordinators of Krishi Vigyan Kendras at Goalpara and Kamrup were also present in the meeting. Dr D. K. Sarma, Director, ICAR-NRC on Pig extended a warm welcome to the Union Minister and gave a presentation on the achievements of the Research Centre in promoting scientific pig husbandry. Union Minister appreciated the efforts of ICAR-National Research Centre on Pig, Guwahati in developing farmer friendly technologies. He was keen to know about the benefits received by nearby villages through the activities like artificial insemination and by the use of pig breeds developed for enhancing pork production. He was also keen to know the centres of the All India Coordinated Research Project on Pig and Mega Seed Project on Pig and their activities. Hon'ble Minister has suggested the Scientists of the ICAR Institutes and KVKs to actively participate in the programs launched by the Prime Minister of India, especially on issuing soil health cards to farmers, Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna (SAGY) to increase agricultural production of the country and promote farmer`s welfare. He said that the technologies developed by the Scientists must reach farmers and every effort should be taken to ensure that the required technologies are useful to farmers. While appreciating the technologies developed by the Centre for value addition of pork, he has suggested to establish a pork and pork products sale counter for easy accessibility and to bring more visibility about the technologies of the ICAR-NRC on pig.
