A one-day farmers' training-cum-workshop on piggery management was held at Nahira Village, around 25 kms away from the Institute, on Thursday, 30th of January, 2014. The training was organized by National Research Centre on pig, under the National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP), Component-II. NRC on pig, research institute under the auspices of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, endeavors to promote scientific pig production practices and improved pig farming technologies in the farmers' field. The training was attended by around 150 progressive farmers from numbers of villages around Bijoynagar in South Kamrup. Dr. R. Ezekiel, National Coordinator, NAIP Component-II was the Guest of Honour.

                  The event started with the welcome address by the Taluk President, Sri Prabin Goswami followed by inaugural address by Dr. M.K. Tamuli, Principal Scientist and CCPI, NRC on pig. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Tamuli, highlighted the objectives of the training cum workshop and stressed upon the role of scientific production practices and improved technologies in enhancing pig productivity through adoption of AI technology in the farmers' field. He expressed his hope that this programme will be of great encouragement for the pig farmers to initiate on this front. During the workshop, scientists of the Institute spoke on various topics viz., general management, breeding and reproduction, animal health, nutrition, hygienic pork production, integrated farming etc. and interacted with the farmers. Dr. Ezekiel in his address, emphasized upon farmers orientation and awareness on key issues of pig production and highlighted the need and importance of knowledge sharing and skills development. In concluding session, Dr. D.K. Sarma, Director, NRC on pig, congratulated and expressed his gratitude to the participants for their active involvement and cooperation in the success of the event..
