Inauguration of Administrative building of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Goalpara, Assam on 26th March, 2014

Dr. S. Ayyappan, Honourable Secretary, Department of Agricultural Education and Research, Government of India and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, inaugurated the Administrative building of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Goalpara, Assam on 26th March, 2014. The function started with the welcome address of Dr. D.K. Sarma, Director, National Research Centre on Pig, Guwahati who briefed the activities of KVK after felicitating the dignitaries. Dr. A.K. Gogoi, Zonal Project Director (Zone-III), spoke on the agricultural scenario of the Goalpara district and the role of KVK in promoting agriculture. The Chief Guest of the function, Dr. S. Ayyappan, initially welcomed the farmers to the function and emphasized on the role of ICAR in general and KVK in particular in holistic support to agriculture and allied sectors (animal husbandry, fisheries, home science, agricultural engineering) through its farmers first approach. The farmers responded to DG`s remarks with applauds and interacted lively with him. Dr. S. Ayyappan felicitated progressive farmers during the inaugural meeting and distributed coconut and arecanut saplings to the farmers. DG and other dignitaries planted coconut saplings in the KVK campus. Later, the DG and other dignitaries visited the exhibition organised on the sidelines of the meeting. During the occasion Dr. S.N. Puri, Vice-Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, Dr. K.M.L. Pathak, Deputy Director General (Animal Sciences), Dr. S.V. Ngachan, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH region and Dr. Apurba Chakravarty, Director of Research (Vety), Assam Agricultural University were also present to grace the occasion. Dr. U.K. Baruah, Programme Coordinator presented vote of thanks at the end of the meeting. About 200 farmers, staff of KVK, Scientists of NRC on Pig and other ICAR Institutes, personnel from line agencies, print and electronic media attended the inaugural function.
