ICAR sponsored Short Course on ‘Farm to fork approach for quality pork production in the country’ successfully organized.

Indian Council of Agricultural Research sponsored short term training program on 'Farm to fork approach for quality pork production in the country' was successfully organized from 1st to 10th December 2014 at ICAR-National Research Centre on Pig, Rani, Guwahati for the benefit of scientific, teaching and extension faculties from different Institutions across India. About twenty participants from nine different states viz., Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Assam, Mizoram and Tripura participated in the program. Inaugural ceremony of the training was held on 1st December, 2014 in the Committee room of the Institute. Mr. Samiran Baruah, Food Safety Officer, Food Safety & Standards Authority, Guwahati was the Chief Guest and Mr. Bidyut Kumar Baruah, AGM, APEDA, Guwahati was the Guest of Honour in the function. Dr. D. K. Sarma, Director and Course Director presided over the function. A manual for the benefit of the participants was released on the occasion. Dr. Girish Patil, S., Senior Scientist & Coordinator and Dr. R. Thomas, Scientist & Coordinator were present during the occasion. Training program covered all aspects of pig value chain including feeding, breeding, health, artificial insemination, slaughtering, processing etc. Hands-on training on artificial insemination, slaughter of pigs, processing of pork into different value added products, biotechnological tools for quality pork production and techniques for detection & enumeration of meat borne microbes was provided. Field visit was arranged to participants to Aarohan Pork Products, Sonpur, Veterinary College, Khanapara and ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, Barapani, Meghalaya. Valedictory ceremony was held on 10th December, 2014. Mr. M. M. Bora, Senior Environmental Engineer, Pollution Control Board, Guwahati was the Chief Guest of the function. Dr. D. K. Sarma, Director and Course Director presided over the function. Participation certificates were distributed to participants in the ceremony. All the participants expressed satisfaction over the content and the successful organization of the program.
